Princeton, New Jersey
For this show at Chapin, I focus on painting the Borough of Princeton. The beautiful historic town with its remarkable architecture seemed like a perfect place to translate my creative focus. Since my personal experience in Princeton has been limited, I embraced my displacement and sought out famous places and monuments. It all began with the Yankee Doodle Tavern. After learning that Norman Rockwell painted a mural there in 1938, I decided to capture the current interior with its layers of historic significance and visually stimulating contemporary scene. That painting led to additional ones of local icons such as the Gates and the Freedom Fountain.
